Moscow, 29 June 2026
Russian President Vladimir Putin has convened a crisis meeting with ministers and leading oil producers to respond to the worsening fuel shortage in the country, caused by Ukrainian drone attacks on refineries and oil facilities.
According to Putin, the situation at gas stations has deteriorated. "At the gas stations there are queues, and the required grades of gasoline are not always available," the Kremlin chief said, according to matching reports. On the Crimean peninsula, annexed by Russia in 2014, gas stations have already stopped selling fuel to private individuals.
The crisis, which began in Crimea, has by now spread to nearly all regions of Russia. Putin confirmed that Russia is considering an export ban on diesel fuel in order to secure domestic supply. Russia has also begun tapping its gasoline reserves, the Kremlin said.
