Washington, October 30, 2026
Approximately 47.9 million people in the United States had cast their ballots early by Friday noon, marking a new record ahead of Tuesday’s congressional elections.
The number of early votes cast reached approximately 47.9 million by Friday noon local time. According to the University of Florida, this is the largest number of eligible US citizens ever to vote early in a midterm election before the actual election on Tuesday.
The previous record was set in 2022. At the comparable point, approximately 45.9 million people had voted early. Based on the available data, the current figure is therefore about two million higher.
The figures indicate that early voting is playing a larger role in the 2026 midterms than it did in the midterms two years ago. It is not yet possible to determine from the available information how the new figures will affect final turnout.
