Red Bull has apologized to Max Verstappen after a heavy crash in qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix and taken responsibility for the incident.
Four-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen crashed at the end of qualifying on Saturday at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg and was not at fault, according to his racing team. Following the incident, the Dutchman gave the all-clear: "Alles ist in Ordnung," he said. His car was "nicht so stark beschädigt," meaning "hoffentlich nicht viel daran geändert werden" would be required.
Team principal Laurent Mekies spoke of the team taking full responsibility. "Als Team übernehmen wir die volle Verantwortung und entschuldigen uns bei ihm," the Frenchman said. They had "an Aerodynamik am Heck des Wagens verloren, was Max keine Chance ließ." The overall dynamics of the crash were "ungewöhnlich."
