Federal Economics Minister Katherina Reiche (CDU) is planning concessions in favor of northern and eastern Germany in the dispute over the locational advantage enjoyed by southern German states in the construction of new gas power plants.

The energy companies Leag, headquartered in Brandenburg, and Mibrag, with sites in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, together with the IG BCE industrial union, had called on the federal government to revise the draft law. Criticism of the existing regulation, which was intended to favor southern Germany in the construction of new gas power plants, also came from the states.
