Berlin, 09 June 2026

In the first quarter of 2026, electricity generation from renewable energies in Germany rose by almost 14 percent to 67.5 billion kilowatt-hours, while conventional generation declined slightly.

Generation from renewable sources therefore increased significantly. A total of 126.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity were produced in Germany and fed into the grid in the first quarter, according to the available statistics. More than half of this (53.3 percent) came from renewable sources such as wind and solar.

Wind Energy as the Most Important Source of Electricity

Wind energy was the most important source of electricity. Its share of total domestically produced and fed-in electricity grew to one third. A significant increase in wind-generated electricity compared to the extremely low-wind first quarter of 2025 is also a key factor behind the substantial rise in green electricity production.
