Iran's Revolutionary Guards reported, in a statement by the Fars news agency, that three tankers had run aground on sea mines in the southern passage of the Strait of Hormuz and caught fire.
The report from the Fars news account was based on a statement by the Revolutionary Guards. According to it, the incident occurred within the past 24 hours in the southern passage of the strategically important waterway.
For the first time, “and nothing was initially known about the condition of the crew or the ship” was reported regarding the consequences of the three incidents. It therefore remained unclear how many people were aboard and what damage the vessels had sustained.
The report did not name or identify the origin of the affected tankers. The initially published information also provided no details on the causes of the fires or whether any injuries or missing persons had been reported.
