Jurij Rodionov suffered a first-round exit at the French Open on Monday, falling to French 22nd seed Arthur Rinderknech 6-7(5), 2-6, 3-6 on Court Suzanne-Lenglen.

The match began with an intensely fought opening set that saw both players hold serve until the twelfth game, when Rodionov faced four set points on his own delivery. The Austrian qualifier dug deep, saving all four to force a tiebreak.

A Tight Start

In the breaker, Rodionov initially stayed level, but at 5-5 Rinderknech edged ahead and claimed the next two points to take it 7-5. The partisan crowd of nearly 10,000 roared their approval as the local favorite pumped his fist.

"Jurij hat ein tolles Tennis gezeigt, vor allem im ersten Satz", analysierte ServusTV-Expertin Barbara Schett.
