Sinja Kraus (WTA-101) defeated Germany's Noma Noha Akugue 6-7(5), 6-0, 7-5 in a 2-hour 38-minute match to advance to the final qualifying round of a major tournament for the first time in her career.
The 24-year-old Austrian showed remarkable resilience after losing a tight first-set tiebreak, dominating the second set without dropping a game against her 22-year-old opponent (WTA-164).
In the decisive third set, Kraus converted her second match point to secure the victory, marking a significant milestone in her young career.
This breakthrough comes after Kraus had previously only reached the third qualifying round once before, at Wimbledon 2023.
Kraus now faces a tougher challenge against 32-year-old German Anna-Lena Friedsam (WTA-213), who brings considerably more experience to the court.
