Rock am Ring and Rock im Park kick off with mud, stars, and criticism of infrastructure

Stars on stage: From Linkin Park to Anna Grey

Among those performing on the various stages were Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach, Electric Callboy, and Volbeat. German rapper Anna Grey called out to the audience in the age of TikTok not to give up on live concerts: „Hört nicht damit auf!" Rapper Marteria thanked fans after his performance and stepped down into the dancing crowd. „Dankeschön für diesen wunderschönen, unfassbaren Abend", he said. Rapper Finch also left the stage to sing his final song at eye level with the audience.

British rock band The Subways likewise addressed the audience in German. Bassist and singer Charlotte Cooper said: „Danke an alle."

Criticism of toilets and showers

Away from the stages, however, complaints piled up. The 24-year-old visitor Fabian reported: „Auf dem Campingplatz muss man schon mal 40 Minuten für die Toiletten anstehen." Criticism of the number of toilets and showers at the campsites was reflected in comments under Instagram posts from the event's account and on the festival grounds.

The organizers also responded on Instagram: „Hey Leute, es stehen die gleichen Toiletten- und Duschanlagen wie im letzten Jahr zur Verfügung. Dort, wo Campingflächen jetzt erweitert wurden, haben wir die Kapazitäten zusätzlich ausgebaut und an die größeren Flächen angepasst."

Rock im Park as a twin festival in Nuremberg

While Rock am Ring took place at the Nürburgring in the Eifel, the twin festival Rock im Park was held simultaneously in Nuremberg. Both festivals have drawn mass audiences for years and are considered central gatherings of the rock and metal scene in Germany. The Friday start marked the beginning of a weekend shaped not only by concerts but also by the weather and logistical questions surrounding the camping infrastructure.
