Austrian Jurij Rodionov has won the first round of qualifying for the US Open in New York and will face Portugal's Frederico Ferreira Silva in the second of three rounds overall.

World No. 101 Jurij Rodionov made a strong start to US Open qualifying. The 26-year-old from Lower Austria defeated Belgium's Kimmer Coppejans, advancing to the second qualifying round of the Grand Slam tournament in New York.

On the previous day, several domestic players had already secured their spots in the main draw or the second qualifying round. On the women's side, Lilli Tagger is through to the second round of qualifying after a win over an opponent in round one; on the men's side, Filip Misolic and Joel Schwärzler, among others, advanced to the second round. Lukas Neumayer is also still in contention for a place in the main draw.
