The Kremlin reported on Friday that Russian forces had fully captured the eastern Ukrainian city of Kostiantynivka, while simultaneous attacks on power grids and civilian infrastructure are worsening the situation in several regions.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that the city is now fully under Russian control, with Moscow officially confirming a frontline breakthrough in the industrialized Donetsk region that had been anticipated for months. Independent Western observers have so far not verified the claims.
Before the war, Kostiantynivka had roughly 78,000 residents and had been situated directly on the frontline since the end of 2025. The frontline between Russian and Ukrainian forces had recently run about 20 kilometers south of the city, which was considered an important hub for supplying the Donbas.

Alongside the fighting for Kostiantynivka, Russia expanded its drone and missile attacks on civilian targets in several Ukrainian regions. Oleksandr Hanscha, the military administrator of the city of Dnipro, wrote on Telegram: "Three dead and twelve wounded, including children." Overall, emergency services most recently reported at least 30 dead and more than 90 injured.
