Russia reports drone attack from Ukraine: Hundreds of drones over Moscow region, injuries in several cities

According to official Russian statements, the damage was concentrated in several locations south of the capital. According to his information, falling drone debris triggered fires in the industrial city of Podolsk, around 40 kilometers south of Moscow, damaging civilian infrastructure and a residential building. Non-verifiable photos and videos circulating on social media purport to show a large black column of smoke rising from an oil depot.

Damage and injuries south of the capital

The governor of the Moscow region, Andrei Vorobyov, wrote on Telegram of ten injuries in various cities, as well as fires and damage. In the city of Domodedovo, also located around 40 kilometers south of Moscow, there were seven injuries according to Vorobyov. Six of them were taken to hospital, including three Chinese citizens.

Economic consequences: Logistics center evacuated

The Russian online retailer Wildberries announced that a logistics center in Koledino near Podolsk had been evacuated for safety reasons. "Operations have since resumed," the company stated. The impact of the attack thus extended into civilian economic structures as well.

Counterattacks and Russian airstrikes on Kyiv

Parallel to the attacks on Russian territory, according to Ukrainian statements there had been heavy Russian airstrikes on Ukraine during the previous night. In a Russian attack on a book warehouse in Kyiv, nearly 250,000 books were reportedly destroyed. At least 42 others were injured in the attack, including eight children, as the Ukrainian rescue service announced on Telegram during the night.

For counterattacks on Russian territory, Kyiv primarily uses drones. Ukraine has been defending itself for more than four years with Western assistance against the Russian war of aggression. Drone warfare has thus become a central feature of the ongoing conflict, which repeatedly targets the capital region of the respective adversary.

Neither the drone numbers nor the damage tallies from Russia or Ukraine can be fully verified by neutral parties, making it difficult to assess the situation.
