Attacks Deep Inside Russia

In parallel to the Russian attacks, the Ukrainian General Staff reported successful drone strikes of its own deep in the Russian rear. According to the report, an oil refinery in Nizhnekamsk in the republic of Tatarstan was hit once again. The facility is an important component of Russia's fuel supply and had previously been targeted in earlier attack waves.

Both targets served to supply the Russian armed forces and the export-oriented oil industry, according to Kyiv.

In Kyiv, cleanup efforts continued in the morning. Klitschko warned residents not to stay near damaged buildings, as further debris could fall. The authorities set up emergency shelters for residents whose apartments had been destroyed and organized psychological support for those affected.

Impact on the Region

From the Kyiv region, damage was reported in several localities, according to the regional military administration. Energy suppliers announced temporary supply interruptions due to damaged lines. Hospitals were operating on an emergency basis, according to the Ministry of Health.

The Ukrainian Air Force said it had registered several dozen Russian Shahed-type drones as well as cruise missiles during the night. Some of the drones had been neutralized by its own defenses and by jamming equipment. The exact toll was still being reviewed, it said.

Russian attacks were also reported from other parts of the country, including the Odessa area. The Ukrainian side assessed the simultaneous increase in its own drone strikes against Russian oil facilities as an indication of a changed strategy aimed at increasing pressure on the attacker's energy and logistics infrastructure.

International Reactions Expected

Russia did not initially comment officially on the Ukrainian drone strikes in Tatarstan and Krasnodar. Independent Western observers had repeatedly pointed out in recent weeks the increasing range of Ukrainian drones and damage to Russian refineries, which could have effects on the fuel market.

International reactions to the latest attacks had not yet been received by editorial deadline. Diplomatic circles in several European capitals indicated that the incidents could accelerate ongoing consultations on further sanctions and on additional air defense aid for Ukraine.

Independent of the reporting, Ukraine's anti-corruption authorities meanwhile announced investigation results against an alleged criminal organization that, according to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, was said to have been led by a sitting and a former member of parliament.

The total number of victims and the extent of property damage in Kyiv remained unclear at midday. Authorities announced an official interim toll for late afternoon. Residents of the capital were called on to attend blood donation appointments and to continue following the instructions of the air raid sirens.
