Russian Missile Attack on Kyiv Claims at Least One Life

Information from the War Zone Difficult to Verify

The Ukrainian capital had already been targeted by missiles and drones several times, with energy infrastructure and residential areas particularly affected. The authorities had therefore stepped up testing of air raid sirens and maintained shelters.

Residents of the capital reported long nights in subway tunnels and basements, which have served as shelters in Kyiv since the start of the war. Schools and kindergartens remained closed in the morning, while public transport was suspended in parts of the city. Hospitals prepared for the admission of further injured persons.

Outlook for the Coming Days

The Ukrainian government announced that it would raise the attack in international forums. President Zelensky said in a video address that this was further evidence of the need for strengthened air defense. Western partners were once again asked to provide additional air defense systems and ammunition.

In view of the ongoing attacks, concern is growing among the Ukrainian population about an escalation of the situation in the coming weeks. Many families now spend most of their time in shelters, while authorities try to ensure basic supplies of water, electricity, and heating.
