Russia attacked the Ukrainian capital Kyiv with ballistic missiles during the night of July 19, 2026, hitting several districts and killing at least one person according to authorities.

Scale of the Nighttime Attacks

According to a reporter on the ground, the attack involved dozens of explosions in central Kyiv, some of which were attributed to air defense missiles. The Russian Air Force used ballistic missiles according to Ukrainian sources, striking several districts of the three-million-strong metropolis. Mayor Vitali Klitschko initially reported seven injured and did not initially mention possible fatalities.

According to the Kyiv Military Administration, one person was killed based on preliminary information. Ukrainian emergency services also reported two injured. The attacks triggered fires in several districts and damaged buildings, including a residential building in the Shevchenkivskyi neighborhood and another residential building in the Sviatoshynsky district.
