Kyiv, 20 August 2026

A Russian missile barrage hit Kyiv and the surrounding region early on 20 August, killing at least six people and damaging residential buildings and infrastructure, according to Ukrainian officials.

Russia's defense ministry said on Telegram it launched a 'massive strike using high-precision weapons' against military facilities, a transport and logistics center, and warehouses in Kyiv and the broader region.

Kyiv's military administration reported strikes across several districts of the capital and the surrounding oblast. Falling debris and direct hits damaged apartment buildings, a transport hub and storage sites, according to initial assessments from Ukrainian emergency services.
