Vienna, July 3, 2026
On July 3, 2026, the retail chain SPAR recalled the "SPAR Natur*pur by NENI Bio-Hummus natur" in the 125-gram cup due to suspected salmonella contamination and is calling on customers not to consume affected packages.
The recall exclusively concerns the stated product weighing 125 grams. According to the press release, all packages with a best-before date (BBD) up to and including July 7, 2026, are specifically affected. Other items from the "SPAR Natur*pur" brand or hummus products from other manufacturers are not affected by this recall, as the company explicitly clarifies.
Which specific packages are affected
The statement reads: "Kund:innen werden aufgefordert, den 'SPAR Natur*pur by NENI Bio-Hummus natur 125g' mit den Mindesthaltbarkeitsdaten (MHD) bis inkl. 07.07.2026 nicht zu konsumieren." Anyone who already has the product at home can return it immediately at any SPAR, EUROSPAR, INTERSPAR, or Maximarkt store. According to the company, no receipt is required for the return.
Salmonella are bacteria that typically enter the body through contaminated food and can trigger gastrointestinal complaints. These include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever. Particularly at risk are small children, pregnant women, elderly people, and individuals with weakened immune systems. If corresponding symptoms occur after consumption, medical advice should be sought.
