Salzburg, 21 July 2026

Three weeks after the inner-city driving ban for day tourists came into effect in Salzburg, Mayor Bernhard Auinger (SPÖ) is assessing the summer regulation as effective and considers the city to be well prepared for August.

What the regulation provides for

Since 1 July, day tourists are no longer allowed to drive into Salzburg's city center by car. The measure, which was decided in spring following the model of Italian cities, specifically affects the zones around the Kaiviertel, the Staatsbrücke, and the Neutor. Exemptions include suppliers, commuters with confirmation from their employer, festival guests with tickets, hotel guests with bookings, and residents of surrounding districts.
