The U.S. Senate voted 52-47 early Friday morning to pass a $70 billion bill funding Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol for three years, through the end of President Donald Trump's term, after hours of procedural delays sparked by an unrelated $1.776 billion settlement fund for Trump.
The vote came just before 5 a.m., ending a marathon session that began Thursday morning. The legislation provides three years of regular funding for ICE and Border Patrol, agencies that have operated without a full budget since the Department of Homeland Security's funding lapsed in mid-February. The lapse followed Democratic demands for policy changes after federal agents fatally shot two protesters, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, in Minneapolis in January.
