President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he will formally nominate Todd Blanche, currently the acting attorney general, to permanently lead the Justice Department.

Speaking at a White House dinner, Trump said he plans to submit Blanche's nomination on Thursday. "We are going to make him permanent attorney general," Trump told attendees, according to a video of the remarks posted on social media by a White House aide. The event took place in the Rose Garden.

Blanche was elevated to acting attorney general in April after Pam Bondi's firing. He had been serving as deputy attorney general at the Justice Department. Before joining the department, Blanche was a federal prosecutor in New York, and he later rose to public prominence as a lead attorney on Trump's defense team, including during Trump's hush money trial in New York.
