Serious traffic accident near Zwettl: Car crashes into tree, five injured

The Lower Austrian emergency call center dispatched several rescue vehicles from the Red Cross and the Samaritan Federation to the scene after the accident. In addition, the emergency medical helicopter Christophorus 2 was requested to support the medical care of the seriously injured.

Major-scale rescue operation

According to the fire department, a total of five people were injured in the crash. One of the injured was transported by rescue helicopter to the Horn state hospital, while the others were taken by ambulance to surrounding hospitals.

The two alerted fire departments secured the accident site, bound off leaking operating fluids, and supported the rescue services in caring for the patients. The recovery of the vehicle and the cleaning of the roadway took several hours.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. According to initial findings, speed that was not adjusted to the downhill curve as well as possibly a wet roadway may have played a role.

Investigations into the cause of the accident

The police have launched investigations to clarify the exact sequence of events. Witnesses to the incident are asked to report to the nearest police station.

The route was closed to all traffic during the rescue and recovery operations. The road could only be reopened in the late morning.
