A severe thunderstorm with heavy rain caused 65 fire department operations in Carinthia overnight into Thursday, blocking roads in several districts and cutting households off from the power grid.

The series of operations began early in the evening in Upper Carinthia and spread over the following hours to large parts of the federal state, as the State Alarm and Warning Center (LAWZ) reported to APA on Thursday morning. The districts of Villach Land, Feldkirchen, and Klagenfurt Land were particularly affected, where storm gusts and heavy rain silted up and weeded over roads. "The main reason for operations were trees torn down by the storm, but also flooded basements and streams bursting their banks," the LAWZ stated.
