A severe storm on Wednesday brought locally unusually heavy rain to parts of Saxon Switzerland and Upper Lusatia, as Susanne Langhans reported.

According to the information, 20.5 liters of rain per square meter fell in Lichtenhain-Mittelndorf within a short time. Such amounts, which according to Langhans were locally unusually high, rarely occur in the region within such a short time window. The result was flooded streets, water-filled basements, and an area-wide deployment of fire department and Technical Relief Service.
