Severe storms have hit the Aegean and, in particular, the Greek island of Crete in recent days, where the weather service registered 361 liters of rain per square meter in the town of Anogia near Rethymno within less than 24 hours.

According to the Greek weather service EMY, 361 liters of water per square meter fell in Anogia, a mountain community in the regional unit of Rethymno, within less than 24 hours. The figure comes from measurements taken by the national weather service and was confirmed by two independent sources. Such an amount of rainfall in such a short period is considered meteorologically exceptional and exceeds the region's average October precipitation many times over.
