A cold front brought severe thunderstorms and hail to large parts of Switzerland on Friday morning, prompting insurer AXA to register numerous damages to cars and roofs among its customers.

Initial situation: Cold front sweeps across Switzerland

The thunderstorm front moved across Switzerland according to reports from several cantons. Particularly affected were regions in the cantons of Aargau, Solothurn, Schaffhausen and Zurich, where, in addition to heavy rain, hail fell – in some cases with considerable diameter. In Winterthur and other places, flooding and disruptions to road traffic occurred.

Insurer AXA confirmed late on Friday evening that the severe weather had also left its mark on its customers. In a statement, it said that a wide range of damages had been reported – especially damaged roofs and battered vehicles from hailstones. A final damage assessment was not yet available.
