Severe Weather Warning for Southern Austria: Heavy Thunderstorms with Hail and Storm Gusts Expected

In parts of Styria and in East Tyrol, warning level "Yellow" additionally applies, with local heavy rain, storm gusts, and hail up to around two centimeters.

Unwetter Österreich forecasts the same weather situation for the affected regions and adds: "In der Nacht lösen sich die Schauer wieder auf". According to the meteorologists, this means at least a temporary easing of the situation can be expected as the thunderstorm cells lose intensity over the course of the night.

Peak in the Afternoon Hours

According to Skywarn Austria, the situation is particularly tense in popular holiday regions. The warning service writes: "Vor allem in beliebten Urlaubsregionen können organisierte Gewitter mit Hagel bis 10 cm, orkanartigen Sturmböen und vereinzelten Tornados auftreten." This significantly increases the risk of property damage and to the safety of people outdoors.

On Tuesday, temperatures will range between a pleasant 18 and 27 degrees, depending on the region. At around 2,000 meters above sea level, only about 8 degrees will be measured. As a result, the snowfall line in the Alps is comparatively high, which favors the formation of warm, moist air masses that serve as a driver for intense thunderstorms.

Residents in the affected regions are asked to secure loose objects outdoors and to avoid staying outside during thunderstorm phases. There is an increased risk of injury from hail and storm gusts, so cars should be parked in garages or under solid coverings whenever possible.
