Munich, 01 July 2026

Due to a severe weather warning from the German Weather Service, operations at Munich Airport were suspended for the time being on Wednesday morning.

The airport announced on site via public announcement that handling operations had been suspended for the time being. A display board also read: "Aufgrund der Wetterlage komme es zu Einschränkungen im Flugverkehr." The airport was responding directly to a warning issued in the morning by the German Weather Service for the region northeast of Munich.

What the weather service announced

The German Weather Service had warned in the morning of thunderstorms with heavy rainfall between 25 and 35 liters per square meter per hour, as well as gale-force gusts and hail, in the region northeast of Munich. Munich Airport, one of Germany's busiest airports, is also located in this region.
