Top seed Jannik Sinner retained his Wimbledon title on Sunday with a 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-4 victory over second-seeded Alexander Zverev in the men's singles final at the All England Club in London.
The match, played over 3 hours and 46 minutes on Centre Court, was the first Wimbledon men's final between the two rivals. Sinner, the top seed from South Tyrol, recovered from a tight opening set to take control in the second, before breaking decisively in the third to swing the final in his favour.
The opening set produced the kind of tension that has come to define recent major finals between the pair. Zverev held a set point at 6-5 but failed to convert, and Sinner responded with an ace to deny the German a set point of his own at 6-7. The tiebreak swung Zverev's way when the 29-year-old struck a forehand winner to close it out 9-7 after just over an hour of play.
