Ceuta, 23 September 2026
An estimated 3,000 to 4,000 migrants continue to remain at the temporary reception camps on the beaches of the Spanish enclave of Ceuta.
According to reports from Spanish media, accommodation is taking place under extremely cramped conditions. The temporary camps, including the so-called plaza near the coastal station of Benítez and the Trampolín facility, were not originally designed for sustained occupation on this scale.
Migration links between Ceuta and neighboring Morocco have repeatedly intensified the situation in recent times. Arriving people are temporarily registered in the facilities operated by the Spanish Ministry of Transport before being redistributed either to mainland Spain or to other reception centers.
According to the Spanish broadcaster RTVE, occupancy at the temporary camps fluctuates significantly. While at one point thousands of people were accommodated in the beach facilities, recent estimates put the number at 3,000 to 4,000.
