Seoul, October 28, 2026
South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix announced on Wednesday that more than half of its planned memory production through 2028 has already been allocated.
The allocations follow a surge in demand for High Bandwidth Memory, a type of working memory designed for computationally intensive applications. It is needed for artificial intelligence and the infrastructure required to support it.
Asian and Australian stock markets, meanwhile, showed no clear direction on Wednesday. Investors were awaiting the Federal Reserve's interest-rate decision, expected late on Wednesday.
Why HBM is important for AI expansion
SK Hynix is therefore considered one of the leading suppliers in a market segment experiencing strong demand from the expansion of AI systems. The high utilization of production capacity through 2028 indicates that many planned volumes are already secured on a long-term basis.
