South Korean memory chipmaker SK Hynix posted a 557 percent increase in quarterly profit on Wednesday, citing unprecedented demand for AI-related memory chips as the core driver of its record earnings.
AI memory demand lifts Korean chipmaker
SK Hynix, one of the world's largest producers of memory semiconductors, reported a 557 percent surge in quarterly profit, according to aggregated market coverage. The figure marks one of the steepest single-quarter earnings jumps in the company's history and underscores the scale of the AI-driven demand wave now reshaping the semiconductor industry.
The earnings beat is being attributed to the global boom in AI services, which has triggered sustained orders for high-bandwidth memory chips used in AI accelerators. Such components, which sit alongside processors made by US chip designer Nvidia, have become essential building blocks in the data centers powering large-language-model training and inference workloads.
