The Berlin-based media conglomerate Axel Springer has completed the acquisition of the storied British newspaper "Telegraph" and is paying the previous owner RedBird IMI approximately £575 million.

The media conglomerate Axel Springer is completing the acquisition of the storied British newspaper "Telegraph." As the company announced, Springer is paying the previous owner RedBird IMI an amount of £575 million (€661 million) for the Telegraph Media Group. In Springer's assessment, this secures the future of one of the most renowned media companies in Great Britain.

Springer had announced in March that it intended to acquire the Telegraph Media Group for the equivalent of around €668 million. With the now-completed purchase, the German media house has pre-empted an originally planned sale to the owner of the "Daily Mail," Jonathan Harmsworth, as the "Financial Times" had previously reported.
