Head coach Dejan Stankovic has resigned from his post following Red Star Belgrade's 0:3 Champions League qualifying defeat against Israeli champions Hapoel Be'er Sheva.
The Serbian football record champions Red Star Belgrade are without a head coach just a few days before a pivotal fixture. Dejan Stankovic announced his resignation after Red Star Belgrade collapsed without a whimper in a 0:3 loss to Israeli champions Hapoel Be'er Sheva in Champions League qualifying. The defeat was comprehensive in aggregate terms and exposed shortcomings in both build-up play and defense.
Stankovic had only taken charge of the coaching role that summer. Following the disappointing display against the Israeli champions, the Serbian international decided to face the consequences and take responsibility for the sporting slump. His departure comes at a time when the club is under pressure both domestically and internationally and is in need of results.
