Austria's Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker has spoken out in favor of administrative savings within the European Union and rejected an expansion of the EU financial framework in the face of rising administrative costs.
Stocker justified his position by referring to national austerity pressures in the EU member states. If states have to consolidate their budgets, the Union's common financial framework cannot grow in the same breath, he said, according to consistent reporting in several media outlets.
Specifically, the Federal Chancellor's criticism was directed at rising costs for administration and bureaucracy within the European Commission. He sees this as a contradiction to the budgetary situation of many governments, which want to reduce or at least stabilize their national budgets.
