Super Typhoon "Bavi" made landfall in Taiwan on Friday and is considered, according to Taiwan's weather agency, the largest typhoon to hit the island in more than 30 years.

Taiwan's weather agency stated that "Bavi" would make landfall during the course of the day and that wind gusts of nearly 200 kilometers per hour were likely to sweep across the island. According to the agency, the storm has a span of around 380 kilometers and is moving toward the northeastern coast. According to forecasts, "Bavi" will hit Taiwan until Saturday and then continue moving toward China.

According to the forecasts, the particularly affected area is the port city of Keelung in the north of the island, which lies directly on the storm's path. The capital Taipei and the nearby coastal district of Bali, where many fishermen and small business owners are based, are also among the endangered areas. The weather agency warned of heavy rain, flooding, and landslides in mountainous regions.
