Vienna, 30 June 2026

The Supreme Court of Justice (OGH) will on Thursday address itself for the first time to the criminal proceedings against René Benko for fraudulent bankruptcy and will rule on the appeals on points of law lodged by both sides.

In the Great Hall of the Vienna Palace of Justice, the hearing is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A decision by the high court is expected immediately afterwards. With this, the Benko case reaches Austria's highest judicial instance after the first-instance verdicts.

In October 2024, René Benko was found partly guilty of fraudulent bankruptcy by the Regional Court of Innsbruck and sentenced to two years' imprisonment. The court held it as proven that the property investor had given his mother 300,000 euros and thereby withheld assets from his creditors. Benko has been in pretrial detention since January 2024.
