A suspected cyberattack on the Argentine Football Association (AFA) has revealed traces leading to Egypt, according to a media report, while investigations into the origin and scope of the incident are still ongoing.

According to the Argentine daily "Diario Popular," emails were allegedly sent in the name of the AFA questioning the refereeing performance in Egypt's World Cup round of 16 match against Argentina. One of these messages reportedly reached journalists and contained the claim: "Argentina did not win. The victory was stolen through corrupt refereeing decisions."

On Thursday, the AFA confirmed that a possible email distribution had been detected that was neither created nor authorized by the association. The federation also called on recipients to ignore unusual messages – particularly those containing links, attachments, or requests to disclose personal data.
