Two crew members aboard a Dutch cruise ship are in urgent need of medical care amid a suspected hantavirus outbreak, according to operator Oceanwide Expeditions, while global health officials emphasize there is no cause for alarm.
The company confirmed that one British and one Dutch crew member exhibited respiratory symptoms requiring immediate attention. In a statement, Oceanwide said, "Two sick crew members — one British, one Dutch — have respiratory symptoms and need urgent medical care."
Health authorities have identified one confirmed case of hantavirus, a rodent-borne illness known to cause severe respiratory complications, with five additional suspected cases under investigation. The World Health Organization (WHO) has downplayed fears of widespread transmission, urging against panic.
