The Social Democrats under Magdalena Andersson have won the parliamentary election in Sweden, while Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson acknowledged a clear defeat.

In Sweden's parliamentary election, a victory for the Social Democrats is emerging following the count of votes. The party of Magdalena Andersson was significantly ahead of the bourgeois bloc of Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson according to the official projections. This puts a red-led cabinet in prospect for the first time since 2022.

Kristersson spoke on election night of a clear defeat for his minority government. He announced that he intended to respect the mandate to form a government and congratulated the Social Democrats on their election victory. His government had most recently been in power with the Sweden Democrats as providers of a majority, among others.
