Winner and Loser

Stockholm – In Sweden, the centre-left alliance led by Magdalena Andersson has won the parliamentary election. This was reported by Sweden's public broadcaster SVT the day after the vote. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, whose right-wing governing alliance of the Moderates, Christian Democrats, and Liberals cooperated with the far-right Sweden Democrats as a supporting party, conceded defeat on election night itself.

According to figures from the Swedish Election Authority cited by SVT, the centre-left alliance was projected to secure a narrow majority of seats. Kristersson's governing bloc came in at 174 seats according to SVT. This left the coalition, in office since 2022, just short of the 175 seats needed for a majority in the Riksdag.
