German open water swimmer Florian Wellbrock celebrated his third title in open water at these championships by winning gold in the relay at the European Swimming Championships in Paris.
The decision was made on Sunday in the Seine, where the open water competitions of the European Championships were held. Wellbrock, who had already won two individual races earlier in Paris, completed his collection with the relay success and underscored his exceptional standing in European open water swimming. As of Sunday evening, no final details were available regarding the distance and the exact composition of the German quartet.
According to the organizers, the German team prevailed over the competition from Hungary and Italy, who took the other podium places. As a result, the two strongest pursuers of the German team once again returned home with medals without being able to claim victory in the relay. The places behind them were taken by other nations that had already impressed with strong performances in the individual competitions in the days before.
