Lufthansa subsidiary Swiss removed two apparently intoxicated pilots from duty in May while they were still at the hotel before their departure to the airport and replaced them with other crew members.

What is known so far

The incident occurred ahead of a planned flight from Geneva. As the Lufthansa subsidiary stated in response to an inquiry, crew members raised the alarm hours before the scheduled departure because they noticed signs of intoxication in the two pilots. The indications were so specific that the airline doubted the two were fit for duty.

The flight attendants immediately informed supervisors. The flight personnel reacted so quickly and decisively that the two pilots were removed from duty at the hotel before their departure to the airport, Swiss emphasized. Other pilots took over the service and carried out the flight.
