Bern, July 13, 2026
Switzerland and the United Kingdom have concluded a new free trade agreement after three years of negotiations, which was presented on Monday by Federal President Guy Parmelin and British Economic Secretary Peter Kyle at the Hotel Bellevue Palace in Bern.
The agreement comprises 20 chapters and has been finalised after ten rounds of negotiations. It is expected to be ready for signature by the end of the year, after which the Swiss Parliament must give its approval. As British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated in a communiqué, this is the sixth trade agreement the United Kingdom has concluded within two years: «Dieses wegweisende Abkommen ist das sechste Handelsabkommen, das wir innerhalb von zwei Jahren abgeschlossen haben.»
