Yang Shuang-zi won the prestigious International Booker Prize for her novel 'Taiwan Travelogue', which delves into Taiwan's colonial past and the lives of two women during the Japanese occupation.

The International Booker Prize, one of the most prestigious literary awards globally, comes with a prize money of 50,000 pounds, split equally between the author and the translator. Yang's novel, originally written in Chinese, was translated into English for the award.

'Taiwan Travelogue' is set in 1930s Taiwan, a period marked by Japanese colonial rule. The story focuses on two women: a Japanese author and a local translator who develop a close relationship amidst the political turmoil of the time.
