Eighteen-year-old Austrian Lilli Tagger and her Italian partner, Olympic doubles champion Sara Errani, defeated the American duo of Ashlyn Krueger and Sofia Kenin 6-3, 6-2 in the first round of the French Open women's doubles on Tuesday.
The victory was a commanding performance against a pair that included a former Australian Open singles champion in Kenin. Tagger and Errani needed just over an hour to dispatch their opponents and advance to the second round.
The partnership came about after Errani, the 39-year-old title defender, was left without her regular partner Jasmine Paolini. Errani reached out to the young Austrian, who jumped at the opportunity.
