A ten-year-old hiker from the Czech Republic collapsed from exhaustion on Saturday evening on the Großer Donnerkogel in Gosau (Gmunden district), prompting mountain rescue teams and a police helicopter to head out and bring the family down from the high-alpine terrain.
Background: Emergency on the Donnerkogel
The Großer Donnerkogel is part of the Gosaukamm ridge in the Dachstein massif and is considered a demanding tour. On Saturday evening, an emergency call came in from there because the child of a Czech holiday family was completely exhausted and could no longer continue. The control center then alerted mountain rescue as well as the police helicopter, which landed at roughly 2,000 meters above sea level.
