Bangkok, 20 May 2026

Thailand's cabinet has decided to revert to 30-day visa-free entry for tourists from 54 countries, ending the 60-day policy introduced in July 2024 to boost post-pandemic tourism.

The Thai government announced on Monday that it would abolish the 60-day visa-free entry policy for tourists, returning to the previous 30-day limit. The change affects visitors from 54 countries, including Austria, Germany, and Switzerland.

According to the Bangkok Post, the decision was made due to concerns about foreigners using the extended stay period for illegal activities or permanent residence. Tourism Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul stated that the decision will be forwarded to the relevant authorities.

The 60-day visa-free rule was initially implemented in July 2024 as part of efforts to revive Thailand's crucial tourism sector following the COVID-19 pandemic. However, authorities reported increased cases of misuse during the extended stay period.
