Walter himself expressed his satisfaction with the agreement. "I feel great trust and conviction from everyone at the club, the club, staff, the team, and the players," he said. "The club has potential, a clear idea, and an environment that thinks and works sustainably but also ambitiously."

The 50-year-old took over at Kiel in late February after the club parted ways with Marcel Rapp. Despite a difficult start that saw the team collect just one point from his first three matches, Walter guided the "Storks" to a six-game unbeaten run.

That sequence of results secured the club's survival in the 2. Bundesliga with three matchdays to spare. The turnaround underlined Walter's impact in a short space of time.

Coaching Staff Confirmed

Walter's coaching staff will remain intact. Alongside Dirk Bremser, who has served as an assistant coach at Kiel since 2021 under both Ole Werner and Marcel Rapp, Julian Hübner and Michael Wimmer will continue in their roles within the coaching team.

This is Walter's second spell in charge of Holstein Kiel. He previously coached the club during the 2018/19 season before moving on to roles at VfB Stuttgart, Hamburger SV, and English side Hull City.

His first tenure at Kiel was brief, lasting only 18 matches before he was relieved of his duties. However, the club's faith in him has been renewed following his successful rescue mission this spring.

Wolfsburg Interest Fended Off

The contract extension ends speculation about Walter's immediate future. Reports from Sky and the Wolfsburger Nachrichten had indicated that Wolfsburg were attempting to recruit Tim Walter following their relegation from the top flight.

Instead, Walter will remain in northern Germany, tasked with building on the momentum from the end of the season and steering Kiel through a full campaign in the second tier.

The announcement provides stability for both the coach and the club as they prepare for the upcoming season. Kiel will be aiming to avoid another relegation battle and push higher up the table under Walter's guidance.

Walter's commitment was welcomed by the club, who see continuity as key to long-term progress. The one-year deal aligns both parties for an immediate push while leaving options open beyond the next season.
