Climate Minister Norbert Totschnig described thermal renovation as a core element of adapting to increasingly frequent heatwaves on ORF's "Pressestunde" on Sunday, while also announcing a course of austerity for the coming years.
In view of a series of historic hot days in Austria, the climate minister sees a particular need for action in the thermal renovation of buildings. "Die Hitzetage sind einzigartig, historisch", said the minister on ORF's "Pressestunde" on Sunday. He sees building renovation as a central lever to make interiors usable even at extreme temperatures.
When asked about concrete immediate measures to protect the population from the next heatwave, Totschnig referred to existing programs and responsibilities: "Das ist ein laufender Prozess", said Totschnig. "Jeder muss hier in seinem Bereich Verantwortung übernehmen." Thermal renovation is an essential building block of long-term climate change adaptation.
