Linz, July 3, 2026

In the breach-of-trust trial against former Linz Mayor Klaus Luger, the 65-year-old pleaded not guilty at the Linz Regional Court, as procedural records indicate.

Luger is accused by the Linz Public Prosecutor's Office of having passed on the questions of the hearing commission in advance to a candidate for the artistic directorship of the Linz event company LIVA – and thus also for the directorship of the Brucknerhaus – in 2017. The prosecution states in its criminal motion that the commission for the expert opinion was "in seinem eigenen Interesse gelegen" (predominantly in his own interest). The specific damage is quantified at exactly 19,061.15 euros.

Background: Breach of Trust Allegation in the LIVA Appointment

If convicted, the 65-year-old faces up to three years in prison. How the mayor, who resigned from office in August 2024 due to the case, would defend himself in the criminal proceedings had previously not been known to the Regional Court.
